For Clinicians: Supervision and Professional Development
FOR CLINICIANS
Alongside her clinical work with children, adolescents and families, Anna works with the clinicians who see them. She is a Board-Approved Supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia and co-founder of the Clinical Psychology Resource Centre, which provides formulation-led professional development and supervision for practitioners across Australia.
METHOD FOLLOWS FORMULATION
Most training teaches a method. A model, a protocol, a set of techniques to apply. The difficulty arrives in the room, when the child in front of you does not match the manual, and the question becomes which approach this particular child needs, and why.
Anna’s work with clinicians starts from the other end. Formulation first — a working understanding of this child, this family, this presentation — and treatment selected because it follows from that understanding rather than from a preferred technique. It is a way of working that holds up when presentations are complex, when the first approach does not land, and when a clinician needs to explain to a parent why they are doing what they are doing.
SUPERVISION
Anna is a Board-Approved Supervisor with the Psychology Board of Australia and supervises psychologists, provisional psychologists, and registrars working with children, adolescents and families. Supervision covers formulation and treatment planning, complex and high-risk presentations, working with parents as part of a child’s treatment, and the practitioner’s own sustainability in this work.
Group supervision runs through the Clinical Psychology Resource Centre. These groups are designed to complement a clinician’s formal supervision arrangements rather than replace them; registrars and provisional psychologists should confirm any arrangement against their own registration requirements and with their principal supervisor.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Clinical Psychology Resource Centre holds a library of on-demand webinars for clinicians working with children and adolescents, spanning assessment and formulation, therapeutic method, developmental and psychiatric presentations, work with parents, and practitioner sustainability. Live training days and a coaching masterclass series run through the year.
Programs are evidence-informed and designed for practitioners in active clinical work. Participants should confirm any activity against their own learning plan and professional development requirements.
THE REGULATED PARENTING MODEL™️
Anna developed the Regulated Parenting Model™️ over three decades of clinical work with families. It is an approach to positioning the parent as the agent of change in a child’s treatment — working with the parent’s own regulation as the ground on which a child’s change becomes possible, rather than treating parenting strategy as a set of instructions to be handed over. She teaches it to clinicians through the Clinical Psychology Resource Centre and to parents through the Better Parent Academy.
